FC Dallas fires head coach – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

FC Dallas on Sunday fired coach Nico Estevez, who was in his third season with the team.

Dallas is 3-8-5 this season and is in second-to-last place in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference. Dallas, which has been winless in its last five games, drew 1-1 away at Minnesota United on Saturday.

“Parting ways with the head coach is always a difficult decision. This move required a lot of thought and consideration as it is still early in the season. We believe that a coaching change is in the best interest of the club,” FC Dallas president Dan Hunt said in a statement on Sunday. “I want to thank Nico for everything he has done for the club, including the great playoff memories.”

Assistant coach Peter Luccin will serve as interim head coach, the team announced.

Estevez, a native of Spain, was hired ahead of the 2022 season and led the team to the conference semifinals in the playoffs. Last year, Dallas returned to the playoffs and advanced to the League Cup knockout round.

Dallas was 28-27-29 in the regular season while Estevez was Dallas’ coach.

Estevez is the third MLS coach to leave his team this season. Last week, Atlanta United fired coach Gonzalo Pineda, and in mid-May, Nashville parted ways with Gary Smith.
