Bexar County issues capital murder warrant for Austin shooting suspect

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A capital murder warrant has been issued for a man accused in a December 2023 shooting rampage from Bexar County to Austin, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office told KXAN on Tuesday.

Shane James, 35, was accused of shooting and killing two people, later identified as his parents, in their Bexar County home. He then traveled to Austin and continued the series of violent events that occurred on December 5, 2023.

In total, James is accused of killing six people and injuring three others throughout Austin.

As of Tuesday, James was in the Travis County Jail on multiple murder charges, according to online Travis County court records.

In April, James’ attorneys in Travis County provided an update on the case, saying they were working on discovery, which was time-consuming due to the volume of information as well as the fact that discovery in the case was multiple. -jurisdictional.

James is scheduled to have a hearing in Travis County on Tuesday, but there have been no updates on the case. If we get any details, we will update this article.
