Mavericks’ Luka Doncic receives painkiller injections during the NBA Finals

DALLAS — As the Dallas Mavericks prepare for Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, Luka Doncic continues to deal with various injuries, including a bruised chest, a sprained right knee and left ankle soreness.

After Doncic’s injury comments, ESPN reported that he received a painkiller injection before the second game to help with a chest injury. He is expected to receive another injection before the third game.

“Luka Doncic received a painkiller injection before the second game to numb the area of his chest injury, sources told Malice Andrews and me,” Tim MacMahon wrote. “We expect Doncic to get another chance before Game 3.”

Doncic still scored 32 points with 11 rebounds, 11 assists and four steals in his Game 2 performance. But Dallas’ deep-seated shooting issues prevented him from generating enough offense to win this series, and he led 2-0 heading into Wednesday’s game.

When asked about his chest injury, Doncic didn’t want to go into details, but he was positive. “I feel good,” he said. “I don’t want to go into more details. But I feel good.”

The expectation remains that Doncic will continue to deal with injuries during the NBA Finals. He’s someone who always tries to play whenever possible.

The Mavericks face an urgent need to win Game 3 to avoid a whopping 3-0 series deficit, which is virtually impossible to overcome. After Game 2, Doncic provided some keys to get back into the series. “We have to make shots. We have to take free kicks and concede goals less often,” he said. I think these three things are the key to victory.
