One treasured, family-owned Nashville business is leaving, but a piece of its history will live on.

Friedman’s Army Navy Store has operated in Nashville since 1949, supplying Nashville residents with military surplus, camping, hiking, fishing and hunting equipment. What started as a small Army and Navy store has grown into one of Nashville’s most beloved and legendary institutions.

As the years passed, Friedman grew. Since opening on 4th Avenue in downtown Nashville, the store has had multiple locations throughout Music City. The store opened its final location in Hillsboro Village on 21st Avenue South in 1972.

Friedman’s announced its closure in January.

“Yes it’s true. We are closing up shop,” said a post on X. “After 74 years of being a locally owned and operated small business, we feel we have done well.
