Cal Raleigh will join exclusive Mariners history at the Grand Slam Walk-Off on Monday

By hitting a grand slam on Monday night to defeat the Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh joined a rare and exclusive group in team history.

According to @MarinersPR on social media:

Cal Raleigh wins 10th Grand Slam in @Mariners history and first since Shed Long Jr. June 20, 2021 from Tampa Bay.

Raleigh’s rocket to right field helped the M’s defeat the White Sox 8-4. The group overcame a 4-0 deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning to win and improved to 38-30 on the year. Seattle currently leads the American League West by 5.5 games over the Texas Rangers, who arrive at T-Mobile Park later this week.

It was the third loss of his career for Raleigh, following a blowout in 2022 that ended the M’s long playoff drought. This may also help him break out of the lethargy he’s been in at the plate. Raleigh is hitting just .206 on the season, and over the last 15 games, Raleigh is hitting .174.

Raleigh, the most powerful catcher in baseball, has 12 homers and 39 RBIs this season. Even though his average is low, he continues to deliver in big moments, including two runs in the 10th inning of Sunday’s win over the Kansas City Royals.

The Mariners and White Sox will return to action on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Park. First whistle is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. Pacific time when Bryan Woo will face rookie and White Sox top prospect Drew Thorpe.
