The I-485 exit in northwest Charlotte was closed after the spill

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A leak blocked an off-ramp on I-485 in northwest Charlotte on Tuesday morning, reports Charlotta Fire Department.

Fire officials said exit 16 at Brookshire Boulevard was closed.

The services reported that the leak occurred earlier in the morning and crews are already on site to remove it.

At 10 a.m., traffic cameras indicated the closure was on the outside of the I-485 loop, but traffic appeared to be moving past the exit and only the ramp was closed.

Firefighters did not say exactly what substance was spilled.

The N.C. Department of Transportation said it expects the exit to reopen around 12:15 p.m

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and yield to emergency services.
