Why is this local vintage clothing store expanding in Columbus after less than a year?

A vintage clothing store in Columbus is expanding after opening in Highside Market last fall.

Silver Hanger owners Owen Cotthaus and Felix Rosario opened the store in hopes of bringing the vintage trend popular in major metropolitan areas like Atlanta to Columbus.

Now, less than a year after opening, the store will occupy the space previously occupied by the development’s pop-up Dragonfly Toys & Gifts. Highside Market is a mixed-use development that includes new development along with preserved historic buildings at 211 13th Street.

This expansion adds another 300 square feet to the Silver Hanger, bringing the total to 745 square feet.

“Silver Hanger’s expansion is a significant milestone and step forward for their business,” said Chris Woodruff, president of The Cotton Companies.

The store’s open floor plan is intended to expand the selection and include aspects that support community involvement, Woodruff said.

Silver Hanger offers vintage clothing, streetwear, shoe accessories and household items. However, the additional space allowed Cotthaus and Rosario to introduce new sections, including a designer and street fashion section, as well as a collegiate section that primarily showcases gear from the University of Georgia, the University of Auburn and the University of Alabama.

Another benefit that the Silver Hanger add-on provides is the ability to host pop-up events with other vintage sellers and local businesses. Cotthaus previously told the Ledger-Enquirer that Silver Hanger’s goal from the beginning was to host events.

“This is a great way for us to work more closely with others in the vintage and fashion industry and further connect with this unique community in Columbus,” he said in a press release.
