Serial rapist convicted in cold cases in Charlotte – WSOC TV

The first incident occurred on October 12, 1993, when Bertha kicked the driver’s side window of a car parked at a shopping center on Freedom Drive. Bertha forced the victim to fall over and drove her to a cul-de-sac before raping her.

The second incident occurred on July 30, 1994, when the victim was walking on Beatties Ford Road. Prosecutors say Bertha pushed her into a cul-de-sac and raped her, threatening her with a knife. The third victim was raped in 1996, and Bertha was sentenced to 20 years in prison for this crime in 1997.

The district attorney’s office says prosecutors linked Bertha to the cases through DNA testing.
