Rookie M does something that has never been done in the last 22 years of the team’s history on Wild Monday

On Monday night, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Chicago White Sox 8-4 on a grand slam by catcher Cal Raleigh.

The fight was of course the most memorable part of the match, but we also can’t forget about the gutsy play of newcomer Luke Raley.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, trailing 4-3, Raley scored a bunt single that scored Josh Rojas at third base. He did it with two outs and a strikeout already on him.

This was an incredible play by Raley, who has proven to be an excellent rebel, but it is a play that carries enormous risk. If he hadn’t written it down, people would have started screaming why he didn’t swing the bat.

However, all’s well that ends well, and Raley did something that had never been done in the last 22 years of the band’s history.

Luke Raley is the first @Mariners player to hit a game-winning RBI in the 8th inning or later since Mark McLemore’s July 30, 2002 game against Detroit (via @Stathead ).

Raley’s most hits this season in @MLB against Jacob Young-WSH are 5 bunt hits.

Raley was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in the offseason for his power and he showed it with his six home runs and 17 RBI, but he also proved to be a tough player.

He riots, he runs hard, he hits a homer, he has five stolen bases, he just does everything the team needs him to do, and he does it in a platoon role, playing almost exclusively against right-handers.

The M’s will face the White Sox again on Tuesday night. The first whistle is scheduled for 18:40 Polish time.
