Patriots claim rookie LB Steele Chambers off waivers from Detroit; Fire rookie LB Jay

FOXBOROUGH, MA. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have claimed rookie LB Steele Chambers off waivers from Detroit and released rookie LB Jay Person.

Office, 23, was originally signed by Detroit as a rookie free agent out of Ohio State on May 10, 2024. The 6-foot-1, 229-pounder was released by Detroit on June 10, 2024. Chambers began his college career as a running back before switching to running back in the fall of 2021 linebacker. Over the past three seasons, he has started 29 games at linebacker. In 2023, he finished with a team-leading 41 solo tackles.

Person, 24, was signed by New England as a rookie free agent on June 6, 2024. He began his college career at Appalachian State in 2018 before transferring to Chattanooga. The 6-foot-1, 237-pounder played in 51 games during his college career and totaled 233 tackles, 26½ sacks, 6 passes defensed, 9 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries. He played in 12 games last season in Chattanooga and recorded a total of 56 tackles, 9½ sacks, 1 pass defense and 3 forced fumbles.
