Kyrie Irving bravely addresses a Boston Celtics fan after the Mavericks’ Game 2 loss

Kyrie Irving bravely addresses a Boston Celtics fan after the Mavericks’ Game 2 loss

There is clearly some animosity between Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics. The Dallas Mavericks star is playing with his former club in the NBA Finals. This is an opportunity that many stars would like to take advantage of and prove that they are in a better situation.

Among the “Kyrie sucks!” But with chants in Game 2, Celtics fans proved they were still not over Irving’s tenure or his trampling of Lucky on Boston’s center court after he joined the Brooklyn Nets. That left Irving to react after the Mavericks lost 105-98 in Game 2.

Walking off the court after the loss, it seemed like Kyrie Irving was telling Celtics fans that he would see them in Game 5. Down 2-0, Irving and the Mavericks have no guarantee of returning to the East Coast. With the series heading to Dallas, the Mavericks need to win one of two home games to see Celtics fans again.

That’s a bold statement from Irving, who has performed poorly in the first two games of the NBA Finals. After scoring 12 points in Game 1 and 16 in Game 2, Irving simply isn’t performing well enough against his former club these days.

Luka Doncic hasn’t had enough offensive help from his team throughout the series, and it started with his teammate Irving. The former Celtics and current Mavericks star is shooting 35 percent from the field and is 0-of-8 from three-point range in both games.

Sure, the Mavericks can return to Boston for Game 5, but if they don’t win both games in Dallas and Irving doesn’t consistently help Doncic, it won’t matter much. Irving might even see Boston celebrate as their favorite team hoists Larry O’Brien for the 18th time.

Needless to say, the Mavericks are under a lot of pressure heading into Dallas, and Irving, who has lost the last 12 games against the Celtics, needs to turn things around.
