Indianapolis Colts defender playing on the NFL All-Underpaid Team

Indianapolis Colts defender playing on the NFL All-Underpaid Team

It’s not often that a seventh-round draft pick turns into a major starter in the NFL. Don’t tell that to Indianapolis Colts right guard Will Fries.

After being selected by the Colts in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Fries ultimately earned a starting role at the end of his second season in the NFL.

That translated into him retaining the position in 2023, becoming a vital part of a resurgent offensive line in his first season under Tony Sparano Jr. As Fries enters the final year of his rookie contract, he becomes a huge asset to the Colts.

That landed him on the NFL’s All-Underpaid Team, put together by Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer.

Not only is Fries part of a viral photo with teammate and center Wesley French, but he has also become an accomplished blocker who deserves a raise soon.

While far from perfect, Fries put together a solid 2023 campaign. He allowed 30 pressures and four sacks while playing 98% of the offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fries is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2024 season, but if he has another solid season, a nice payday will likely come his way.
