Detroit Tigers player Javier Báez has been on the injured list for 10 days

Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Báez continues to suffer from lower back pain.

The Tigers placed Báez, who also continues to struggle with lineup issues, on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday, with lumbar spondylitis. The 31-year-old doesn’t like to make excuses for his poor results, but he has been struggling with back problems for many years.

“It wasn’t an easy decision for me,” Báez said. I want to go out there, but if I want to help the team in the long run, I have to do that and try to come back in the second half.

To replace Báez, the Tigers called up Ryan Kreidler from Triple-A Toledo.
