Detroit Lions 2024 OTA Final

The final week of the Lions spring OTAs began on Tuesday and, as expected, very few regular participants took part.

This provided an excellent opportunity for underrated Detroit players like undrafted winger Isaiah Williams and former Michigan Panthers winger Kaden Davis to prove their worth. Everyone made the most of the opportunity, Williams shining as a receiver and Davis showing a glimpse of his potential on special teams as a returner.

I think you got a good sense of what they might have, what skills they might have. But then when you put them on the grass, you really start to understand who they are,” Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand told reporters on Tuesday. “What stage of learning are they in attacking? And what kind of route tree do they have? It’s safe to assume that Isaiah may have skill set F or slot. Can he be a route runner of choice for us? Let’s give him those opportunities and see if he can do it.”

Davis totaled 83 receiving yards, 333 return yards and two touchdowns in five games with the Panthers during the 2023 UFL season. As an NFL player, he most recently played for the Arizona Cardinals, serving on the team’s practice squad through the 2023 season.

“And then Kaden showed up at rookie minicamp and showed he could play on the field,” Engstrand said. “He has great stride length. So really, what does this mean for him, what kind of route tree could he have for us? Are these 20 yard cuts? Can he win on a tilt because he’s a little bigger? Can he win? Man, we saw him win on the shoulder the other day, fading out here in the red zone. He’s a guy who showed up and showed up to every one of those practices for one or two plays. So it was good to watch him develop and really see what he can do.”
