Carlos Rodriguez selected from Triple-A Nashville, Kevin Herget selected

The Milwaukee Brewers officially selected right-handed pitcher Carlos Rodriguez on Tuesday ahead of his MLB debut, with right-hander Kevin Herget being optioned to Triple-A Nashville to clear a spot on the active roster and right-hander James Meeker being designated for assignment to clear a spot in the 40 -personnel.

Rodriguez, 22, has been strong lately for the Nashville Sounds, allowing just 11 runs over the last 35 innings (2.83 ERA) in six starts since early May. Rodriguez, the 2022 and 2023 Milwaukee Minor League Pitcher of the Year, was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 draft out of Florida Southwestern State Junior College. He will make his MLB debut as a starter in tonight’s game against the Blue Jays.

Herget (33) has oscillated between Milwaukee and Nashville this season. In five starts for the Brewers, he has a 2.08 ERA and seven strikeouts in eight 23 innings. In 14 appearances for the team, he had an ERA of 2.60 and 19 strikeouts in 17 13 innings.

Meeker, 29, made his MLB debut on Friday after being drafted by Nashville himself. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning in the win over Detroit. In 18 appearances for the Sounds this year, he recorded 30 strikeouts and 27 innings with a 2.67 ERA.
