Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis is struggling with a ‘rare’ leg injury

Kirstaps Porzingis, the Boston Celtics center who played an important role in the NBA Finals after recovering from a right leg injury, suffered another injury during Game 2. In a statement, the Celtics called the left leg injury “rare.” The team found that he had suffered a tear in his medial retinaculum, which resulted in a dislocation of the tibialis posterior tendon in his left leg. It happened at 3:27 of the third quarter of Game 2. “After consulting with multiple specialists regarding this rare injury, his availability for the upcoming games will be determined daily,” the team said. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla told reporters Tuesday that he didn’t see the moment Porzingis was injured. “I did not see that. And it’s beyond his control. You know, his job is to fight like hell, put himself in the best position to feel as good as possible. But we won’t let him compromise. And that’s what it was like,” Mazzulla said. A reporter asked Mazzulla how likely it was that Porzingis would play in Game 3. “I have no idea,” the coach replied. The team said the new injury is unrelated to the previous right calf injury.
