JACKSONVILLE, FL. – A Wisconsin naval aviation commander died earlier this month during a training exercise at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

Chief Naval Air Crewman Peter “Pete” Lagosh, 41, died on June 4 “while training to carry out his orders,” according to the GoFundMe page.

The circumstances of his death were not immediately known, but News4JAX reached out to the Navy to learn more.

Lagosh was a rescue swimmer and trained at NAS Jax before going to Japan.

He served two tours as an MH-60S crew member in the 28th Marine Combat Squadron (HSC-28), where he completed numerous missions.

Lagosh was a loving father and husband who always had a smile and was ready to help anyone who needed it, according to an online fundraiser that has raised $47,000 in donations since its launch.
