A heatwave that will burn down Metro Detroit for the foreseeable future – here’s what to expect

4Warn the weather – After an exceptionally cold start to the week, prepare for a significant change in weather conditions. The heat is getting hotter and will continue throughout the next week.

For the foreseeable future, we are entering the 1980s and beyond; the 1990s are not out of the question.

We may hit 90 in a few spots on Thursday, but most should top out in the upper 80s. Monday and Tuesday of next week have a better chance of getting into the 90s.

In addition to heat, we expect rain and storms. The first will be Tuesday night as the system west of us begins to move.

However, as it enters at night and there is no daylight, we expect the rain to taper off as it moves through the area from west to east.

We’re actually only expecting a few light showers overnight. It won’t last long and it won’t be common.

A greater chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop Thursday evening. While we cannot provide specific dates or risks yet due to the limitations of high-resolution data, we see potential for an evening event.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Michigan at a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather. The main concern is high winds, but we will be refining this part of the forecast over the coming days to provide the most accurate information possible.

The weekend looks to be nice and warm with a few clouds and highs in the 80s.

Another chance of rain will return next week on Monday and Tuesday.
