The Mariners broadcaster forgot how many runners were on during the winning Home Run

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Chicago White Sox 8-4 on Monday night at T-Mobile Park, with the comeback capped by a grand slam from catcher Cal Raleigh.

With the victory, the M team now has a record of 38-30 on the season. They lead the American League West by 5.5 games over the Texas Rangers, who come to town later this week.

Raleigh’s shot was one of the M’s biggest hits of the season, but unfortunately broadcaster Dave Sims, who was usually on the spot, made a bit of a mistake at this point – forgetting how many runners were on at the time.

Sims thought there were only two runners on base and declared it a 7-4 win for the M’s, when in fact it was a grand slam.

You can listen to the conversation below:

Now we’re just having some fun with Sims, who is often praised by Mariners fans for how he handles big moments. He has been with the team since 2007 and has had some great M calls, including Raleigh’s 2022 home run that broke the team’s playoff drought and a great 2021 call that went viral on social media late in the season.

Monday’s victory was revenge for the M’s disastrous blowout last Friday against the Kansas City Royals, in which they led 8-0 but lost 10-9.

The M’s will face the White Sox again on Tuesday night. The first whistle is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. Pacific time when Bryan Woo will face Drew Thorpe.
