The Detroit Lions are waiving the veteran defensive tackle due to injury

Prior to the final week of organized team activities, the Detroit Lions released veteran defensive end Craig James due to injury.

The Lions announced the decision Tuesday morning. James, who was on the mandatory mini-camp ineligibility list, will likely return to injured reserve once waivers are approved. From that point on, James will need to get injury compensation to be removed from the list.

Signed to a futures contract with the Lions earlier this offseason, the former undrafted free agent has appeared in 23 games (one game) over six years in the NFL. He spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets.

In 2023, James played in two games for the Jets, seeing snaps on both defense and special teams. He was signed to the Lions’ practice squad late in the campaign before signing the aforementioned futures contract in Detroit.

The Lions didn’t make the right move, so they have room to fill in the offseason.
