‘Outer Banks’ Star Austin North Refers to Hospital Incident That Led to Arrest and Cites ‘Severe Anxiety Attack’

In a statement, the actor said he was “deeply upset by the events that took place last week in Las Vegas.”

External Banks star Austin North talks about a recent incident at a Las Vegas hospital that culminated in his arrest for allegedly attacking staff at the facility.

In a statement posted to his Instagram Stories on Thursday, North, 27, said: “I am deeply upset by the events that took place in Las Vegas last week. A friend took me to the hospital because I thought I had a heart. Several tests were done, including blood tests, which showed the presence of drugs and alcohol in my body. I had a serious anxiety attack.

The actor added: “I have very little memory of the events of that day in the hospital. I have great respect for healthcare workers and hospital staff. I have struggled with anxiety on and off for years and this was the worst panic attack I have ever had.” I hope to shed light on this devastating disease and give hope to those who have also struggled with this disease.”

According to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department report reviewed by EW, North was arrested Tuesday night and charged with three counts of battery on a protected person after allegedly punching, punching and pushing two nurses and a phlebotomist at UMC Hospital. The report says that after reading North his Miranda rights, police “asked North if he had any information about what happened, and he stated that he did not remember any of the events that occurred.”

North’s rep declined to comment beyond his statement on Instagram.

It is unclear whether the incident will impact production of the show’s fourth season External Banks, which is currently ongoing. A Netflix representative did not respond to a request for comment.

North plays Topper Thornton, one of the privileged Kooks, on the hit series about a group of teenagers known as the Pogues hunting for a legendary treasure linked to the disappearance of one of their fathers.
