Two Memphis Women Arrested for Human Trafficking in Mississippi

TUPELO, Miss. (WJTV) – Tupelo police have arrested two Memphis women for human trafficking.

Tupelo Police Chief John Quaka said officers received a tip Monday, July 8, about possible prostitution at a local motel. When officers arrived, they found three people in the room.

Police arrested 19-year-old Terraneika Poplar and 20-year-old Destiney Plummer, both of whom were charged with human trafficking.

“The Tupelo Police Department, with the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Department of Child Protection and the Violence Prevention Center, were able to make arrests and rescue the juvenile at the scene,” Quaka said. “This is a despicable crime and TPD will utilize all available resources to ensure that these criminals or future criminals are held accountable. It saddens me that crimes like this continue to occur.”

Both Poplar and Plummer appeared in court on Tuesday, July 9. Both were denied bail.
