Indy to host 2026 Division II, III basketball championships and NIT finals during Final Four weekend

INDIANAPOLIS — In 2026, Indianapolis will be the home of men’s college basketball.

After previously announcing that the city would host the 2026 Final Four at Lucas Oil Stadium, NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee officials announced Thursday that Indianapolis will also host the 2026 Division II and III men’s basketball championships, as well as the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) semifinals and finals the same weekend.

All five games are scheduled for April 4-6, 2026, in Indianapolis. Officials said the NIT will play its semifinals on April 2 at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University. The NIT title game is scheduled for April 5, with a time and location to be announced. The Division II and III championships will be held April 5 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Officials said this is the second time the NCAA has hosted three men’s basketball championships in the same city in one weekend, with the previous feat being accomplished in Atlanta in 2013.

“This will be an incredible celebration of men’s college basketball in all three divisions in Indy,” said Dan Gavitt, senior vice president of basketball for the NCAA, in a press release. “When we did this in 2013, we had nearly 8,000 fans watch the Division II and III championship games, and the final two nights of this year’s NIT at Hinkle Fieldhouse drew sellout crowds of more than 9,000 fans. This will be an incredible opportunity for the student-athletes from the participating schools, as well as a showcase for the legendary fans of college basketball in Indiana.”

According to previous reports, the 2026 Final Four will be the ninth time Indianapolis has hosted the championship weekend. In 2028, Gainbridge Fieldhouse is set to host the NCAA Women’s Final Four.
