“Ukraine’s Future is in NATO”: Washington Summit Decision Details

NATO leaders unanimously supported the Alliance’s new rhetoric on Ukraine’s future membership in the military-political bloc, in line with the decision taken at the Washington Summit, reported European Truth.

The key statement of the document is that Ukraine’s full membership in NATO has no alternative. As Ukraine continues this important work, we will continue to support it on the irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership. … Ukraine’s future lies in NATO“, we read in the text.

The Summit Declaration also introduces the term “bridge to membership“, but the details of this date are not yet known. We welcome the concrete progress made by Ukraine since the Vilnius Summit on the required democratic, economic and security reforms… which NATO Foreign Ministers will continue to assess in the adjusted Annual National Programme“- we read in the document.

NATO countries agreed that member states should provide long-term security assistance to the Ukrainian armed forces. The alliance committed to providing Ukraine with a specific amount of assistance by 2025.We reaffirm our determination to support Ukraine in building a force capable of defeating Russian aggression today and deterring it in the future. To this end, we intend to provide minimum baseline funding of EUR 40 billion over the next year“, the decision stated.

At the Washington Summit, Allies also decided to establish a structure that will provide assistance and training to Ukraine (NSATU) to coordinate the provision of military equipment and training by Allies and partners.NSATU, which will operate in allied countries, will support Ukraine’s self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter“, we read in the declaration.

Moreover, in the final declaration of the Washington summit, NATO countries recognized China as a key sponsor of Russia’s war with Ukraine. The alliance called on China to cease all material and political support for the occupiers.
