Thief steals vintage car from East Memphis garage

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man says a 1953 Chevrolet 210 that took two years to restore was stolen within minutes from the secured garage of an East Memphis office building in the middle of the night.

Bryson Lochemes said the thief jumped a curb to get into a Poplar Avenue garage and made two trips there Wednesday morning to steal a vintage car and a trailer, all of which was caught on camera.

“He came in at 4 a.m. and stole a car. There was a woman in the car with him, and she drove off in his truck. Then he came back at 6 a.m. by himself and stole a tow truck,” Lochemes said.

Lochemes said the vintage Chevrolet was a graduation present for his son. He said he kept the car in his garage for his son and couldn’t trade it in.

“My son graduated from high school eight years ago and wanted this car. We bought it for him and have kept it ever since,” Lochemes said. “He doesn’t know it’s gone. We’re hoping it’ll be recovered and brought back to us.”

The suspect was driving a black truck with white or light blue paint on the bottom. The bed of the pickup was also full of tires.

Lochemes said he was contacted by someone on Facebook who believes the same suspect in the same truck broke into his storage unit, stole antiques and sold them. Lochemes is asking anyone who spots the truck or the Chevrolet to contact police.

“We’re going to get Skycop video from the Memphis Police Department. We’re hoping to track down the license plate of the car to see exactly where he went,” Lochemes said.
