Class members learn about different organizations, are exposed to challenges facing the community, and have the opportunity to brainstorm with like-minded individuals on how to make a difference. Leadership Columbus meets one day a month for nine months, starting in August and ending in March.

Leadership Columbus includes sessions on agriculture, education, law enforcement, economic development, state government, quality of life and local government. Participants also learn more about the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce and how it works to improve the economic well-being and quality of life in the Columbus area, and learn more about the Chamber committees that assist in the work of the Chamber.

The program costs $600. It includes nine full-day sessions with breakfast and lunch, registration fee, and transportation to the Northeast Nebraska Day event at the Capitol, as well as a polo shirt and jacket.

Class members are required to participate in a class project, ride horses with law enforcement officers, and attend one meeting of the Columbus City Council (first and third Mondays at 7:00 p.m.) or the Platte County Board of Supervisors (every other Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.) before graduation.
