Sporting KC to Play FC Dallas in US Open Cup Soccer 7/10/24

Sporting Kansas City defeated FC Dallas 2-1 in a weather-delayed Lamar Hunt U.S. Cup quarterfinal match that concluded early Thursday morning at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.

Dany Rosero scored the decisive goal for Sporting KC in the 111th minute – the second half of extra time – with a header following a corner kick taken by Johnny Russell.

Sporting’s Willy Agada scored in the 77th minute, the ball brilliantly played by Russell, then Jake Davis and finally the 24-year-old Agada, who slotted it home.

But Dallas responded in the 87th minute when Petar Musa scored, beating KC goalkeeper Tim Melia.

The match was interrupted for over an hour as a thunderstorm and lightning front passed through. When play resumed at around 11:10 p.m., with no goals in the 51st minute, only the most persistent fans remained in the stands.

Sporting KC will advance to host Indy Eleven, a USL Championship side that beat Atlanta United 2-1 in the semifinals in late August on Tuesday.
