Seattle Mariners Place OF on IL, Retrieve Talented Minor League Prospect

The Seattle Mariners have placed starter Dominic Canzone on the 10-day injured list and reinstated starter Jonathan Clase from Triple-A Tacoma, the team announced Wednesday.

World Series winner could be role model for Seattle Mariners

Canzone was placed on the injured list with a strained right adductor after undergoing an MRI Wednesday morning. The 26-year-old was replaced in right field by Victor Robles in the bottom of the fifth inning Tuesday night, which the San Diego Padres won 8-0.

Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reported that The injury was sustained when Canzone made a diving catch in right field during Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. It is Canzone’s second stint on the injured list this season. He has also missed 30 games after suffering a sprained acromioclavicular joint in mid-April.

In 54 games this season, the left-handed fielder is slashing .211/.289/.394 with five doubles, seven home runs, 14 RBI and a wRC+ of 94.

Clase returns for a third stint with the team after making his major league debut earlier this season. He is the No. 10 prospect in the Seattle organization, according to MLB Pipeline.

The speedy switch-hitter has risen quickly through the Mariners’ farm system over the past few seasons, moving from Single-A Modesto in 2022 to making his major league debut this season. In his first year at the Triple-A level, he slashed .274/.373/.483 with 11 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 34 RBIs and 26 stolen bases. He also had a combined 79 stolen bases and 20 home runs between his time in High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas last season.

In 15 games with the Mariners this season, the 22-year-old has hit .175/.200/.206 with one double, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Clase last appeared in Seattle in June before being dealt back to the Rainiers.
