Plans to open a Target store in Midtown Detroit have been scrapped

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Plans to open a Target store in Midtown Detroit have been scrapped, a company spokesman said.

The store was expected to be an anchor tenant in the City Club Apartments building on the southeast corner of Woodward and Mack avenues, the apartment management company and Target announced in October 2021.

The planned 32,000-square-foot store would be the first Target store in Detroit in decades. Developers have said the store will be a small-format store that is found in neighborhoods across the country.

“As we announced in January, due to ongoing delays and complications with the project, we no longer intend to open a store in this location,” Target spokesman Joe Unger said.

City Club Apartments is a multifunctional complex consisting of 350 apartments and penthouses in three connected buildings.
