Mother and girl to appear in court over 8-year-old boy’s death

The case of two women accused of murdering an 8-year-old boy is ongoing.

Lashanda Wilder and her girlfriend Johnna Lowe will appear before a judge for the first time since they were indicted by a grand jury.

Both Wilder and Lowe face a number of charges, including murder, abuse of a corpse, aggravated assault, child endangerment and tampering with evidence.

Nearly two weeks have passed since Columbus police found Martonio’s body in a garbage bag in the attic of his mother’s home.

ABC 6 viewed Martonio’s autopsy report this week. He appeared to have suffered severe head injuries and appeared extremely malnourished.

Franklin County Children’s Services tells ABC 6 a social worker has been working with the family since May 2022.

A Children’s Service spokesman said Lashanda had been offered resources including case management, referral support and mental health support during that time.

According to a report from ABC 6, police have been called to Wilder’s home 13 times in the past week since January 2023.

Documents show that just eight days before Martonio’s body was found, officers responded to the home in connection with a disturbance.

Columbus police were called to the home three times for domestic violence, twice for a disturbance and a stabbing — all in the past year and a half.

This story will be updated after the hearing.
