Man arrested hours after shooting and armed robbery reported on East Coast

INDIANAPOLIS — A 24-year-old man was arrested less than three hours after a shooting and armed robbery were reported on Indianapolis’ east side Tuesday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

According to the department’s Facebook page, Brendan Bodie was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a serious felon in connection with the incident that occurred Tuesday evening.

Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, officers from the department’s Eastern District responded to a report of a person shot in the 5400 block of E. 21st St. When they arrived, the post said a person had been found with gunshot wounds.

Before he was taken to the hospital for treatment, the man told officers he had reportedly been shot during an attempted robbery near N. Ritter Avenue and E. 22nd Street by a man later identified as Bodie.

Officers who had previously had dealings with Bodie went to his home to search it and to the crime scene. Once inside, they found a person matching Bodie’s description attempting to leave the home. After officers gave the man “loud verbal commands,” he returned inside.

The IMPD SWAT team and detectives from the Aggravated Assault Unit were then called to the scene. A search warrant was issued for the home, and Bodie was later found hiding in the attic of the home.

The post said Bodie was arrested. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision in the case.
