Lou Lambert Lists Renovated Home in Clarksville, Austin for Sale

Legendary Austin restaurateur enters residential real estate market.

Lou Lambert, the chef-turned-businessman behind popular Austin spots like Jo’s, Lou’s and Lamberts Downtown Barbecue, is looking to sell a historic bungalow in one of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.

The house at 1002 Baylor Street is located on the slopes of Castle Hill in Clarksville. It overlooks the city skyline and was a guest house when it was built in 1947. However, Lambert completely renovated the property, changing the layout and roofline to accommodate the view.

The home is relatively small for its price. It sits on less than a quarter of an acre and measures 1,320 square feet, but it’s asking $1.65 million, or $1,250 per square foot. Homes in the Clarksville and Tarrytown areas often sit on small lots relative to the size of the home.

This listing is from Michael Reisor of Douglas Elliman.

The home was first listed in May for $1.8 million. It’s not the only home to see a price drop, as several top luxury real estate listings have recently seen six-figure price drops.

The biggest feature of the house is the covered porch that stretches the entire length of the building, which can be accessed directly from one of the bedrooms.

Lambert is a seventh-generation Texan who grew up on ranches in West Texas. He and his sister, hotelier Liz Lambert, opened Jo’s on South Congress in 1999. He has since worked on a number of concepts in Austin and Fort Worth.

Lambert’s sister company, MML Hospitality, is working on its own ambitious project near home. Sixth & Blanco, MML’s first residential project, will include 10 apartments, a hotel and 50,000 square feet of retail space at the corner of Sixth and Blanco streets.

The 10 apartments will be located on the building’s top two floors, each with a unique floor plan. They are also larger than typical Austin apartments, at 4,600 square feet and featuring at least three bedrooms.
