Jenna Brown – Scoop: Nashville

James Baker, 60, sexually threatened Katherina Wrather with a baton in his apartment on East Old Hickory Boulevard on July 8. Wrather told responding officers that she was spending time with her friend Lucas McClain and his “street dad,” Baker, who was taking care of him. She then said they went out to get a dog that one of their friends had found with Wrather’s girlfriend, Jenny Brown. They all went to a WeGo station to get a bus, which they were riding on when Baker decided he no longer wanted to spend time with Brown because he found her annoying. After that, Baker, McClain and Wrather got on a bus and drove to Baker’s apartment. Wrather was sleeping in the room closest to the door and woke up to Baker lying next to her, professing his love for her. Wrather said Baker told her how happy she made him, but she didn’t share his interest because he was too old. Then, as she tried to leave, Baker stated that she could not go because she no longer had a bus ticket, which she had lost, and that he would be her means of transportation to continue her journey. Wrather said she sent a text message to Brown and asked her to make up a story about a family member who was in the hospital so she could leave. Baker told her that she could go, but that he would go with her and that they would leave on his time, not hers. Wrather then said that Baker pulled out a small baton, lightly hit her on the leg, and threatened to use it as a whip to punish her, instilling fear in her of bodily harm. Officers spoke with McClain, who corroborated Wrather’s statements, adding that he was “just there to make sure nothing got too intense.” Police then observed text messages between Brown and Wrather about Baker’s earlier actions of undressing women in their sleep and how Brown had seen Baker corner her to separate her from Wrather. Baker was subsequently arrested for kidnapping.
