Jacksonville Jaguars’ Travon Walker earns NFL pass-rush votes

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Travon Walker has a chance to shine in 2024, but there’s a strong case to be made that he did so last year.

Walker had double-digit sacks last year in just his second season as a full-time tackler, 6.5 more sacks than he did in his rookie season, and significantly improved his productivity toward a first-round pick in 2022.

If Walker can repeat what he did in 2023 — or even surpass it — his profile in the NFL ranks will continue to rise. One veteran NFL defensive line coach told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Walker and Josh Hines-Allen “are going to be forces next year,” and Walker also received votes in a poll of 80 NFL executives, scouts and coaches.

Starting the entirety of his rookie season and learning the ins and outs of the edge rusher position in 2022, Walker has made a bigger impact in his second season and is considered a potential star in new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen’s defense.

After just 3.5 sacks as a rookie, Walker reached 10 in 2023 after recording at least half a sack in eight of the Jaguars’ last 10 games. That included his first multi-sack performance with two sacks against the Carolina Panthers in Week 17.

“He was good. He’s just another bright spot on defense, obviously,” Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said during OTAs.

“He’s excited about the new system. He’s another young player that you can count on, even as a leader on defense and in the team. He’s just a great kid. Humble, hardworking, wants to improve, wants to be better, wants to learn and keeps improving. That’s what’s exciting about him.”
