Jacksonville Jaguars could sign free agent power forward ahead of 2024 season

As the 2024 NFL offseason begins, the Jacksonville Jaguars look to address several key needs and make bold moves in free agency to bolster their roster.

One of the main areas of focus was the offensive and defensive fronts. The Jaguars bolstered both their offensive and defensive lines by signing Arik Armstead from the San Francisco 49ers and Mitch Morse from the Buffalo Bills.

They allocated three of their draft picks to linemen, demonstrating their commitment to building a dangerous line on both sides of the field.

In addition to addressing the line, the Jaguars revamped their wide receiver group. Following the departure of Calvin Ridley to the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville brought in Gabe Davis, Devin Duvernay and Brian Thomas Jr., a first-round pick in 2024, to improve their passing attack.

With training camp just a few weeks away, the Jacksonville Jaguars appear to be in good shape offensively and defensively. However, defense remains a pressing concern.

The Jaguars struggled against the pass last season, ranking 26th in yards allowed and 25th in passing touchdowns allowed. A stronger pass rush is expected to help, but the defense still needs significant improvement.

To address those issues, Jacksonville signed safeties Darnell Savage Jr. and Terrell Edmunds, as well as veteran cornerback Tre Flowers, during free agency. Despite those signings, there is still a need for additional reinforcements on defense.

Jacksonville Jaguars Could Make Big Move in Free Agency

The latest odds from BetOnline suggest the Jaguars may not have the final word yet, as they are currently the favorites to sign five-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro Stephon Gilmore.

One of the top remaining free agents, Gilmore showed off his skills last season with the Dallas Cowboys, proving he still has a lot to offer.

He appeared in all 17 games, played 94 percent of the defensive snaps, recorded a career-high 68 tackles and defended 13 passes — his most since the season in which he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2019.

While it’s unrealistic to rely on Gilmore as the top option at cornerback, he remains a reliable and talented starter. Pairing him with Tyson Campbell could significantly increase the defensive capabilities of the Jacksonville Jaguars, helping to bolster their defense and improve their overall pass defense.
