Illini Transfer Tre White Brings Experience in addition to Size

Coach Brad Underwood has made it his goal to add talented transfers to the Illini roster this summer.

One such transfer is junior forward Tre White. At 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds, White brings all the necessary intangibles.

He has proven to be a high performer in both scoring and rebounding when playing for extended periods of time.

In his first season with the USC Trojans, White averaged nine points and 5.1 rebounds and started 29 of 33 games, helping the Trojans reach the NCAA Tournament.

As a sophomore at Louisville, White averaged 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds. He led Louisville in scoring seven times, rebounding six times and was a starter in 26 games.

“Trey has a lot of experience,” Underwood said. “He was a big guy.”

With that experience, Coach Underwood has confidence in White’s ability to contribute.

“I think Trey has gotten over it,” Underwood said. “I mean, he’s got over 50 starts in his career. Obviously, he had a great freshman campaign at USC.”

The question is whether White can add some extra versatility. He’s an offensive force, but can he increase his assist numbers?

At USC he averaged 1.0 assists.

Defensively, he can rebound the ball relentlessly, but could he potentially cover other positions, including the fourth-back position?

We’ll get the answers to those questions soon. It’s obvious that his experience is a bonus.
