Hailie Deegan Parts Ways with NASCAR Team After Skipping Chicago; Promises Return

It should come as no surprise to anyone that Hailie Deegan and her Xfinity Series team, AM Racing, have parted ways.

Deegan’s Monday morning social media announcement came two days after Joey Logano replaced her in the No. 15 Ford Mustang for the Xfinity race at Chicago. The two-time Cup Series champion finished eighth, the team’s only top-10 finish in 18 starts this year.

In 17 starts in her first full-time Xfinity Series season, Deegan averaged 26.8 points, with a best finish of 15th, and never led a lap. That came after three poor seasons in the Truck Series, although she was never with a team considered a top-tier organization in either series.

Despite this, the 22-year-old Californian was voted the most popular driver in the Truck Series for all three years he competed in the series.

As is often the case in these situations, Deegan hinted that there were some issues behind the scenes that may have hurt her chances this season.

“In a racing team, there are always many reasons why something works or doesn’t, but unfortunately our goals no longer align,” she wrote.

Deegan promised to work quickly to find a way to get back on the track and “get back to being competitive.”

She ended her social media post with a thinly veiled suggestion that the disappointment was about more than just bad results.

“I’m grateful for the followers I have and for everyone who supports me… I’m the only one who really knows the whole story and what I need to be successful.”

In 2020, before Deegan moved full-time to NASCAR, she had a decent stock car season in the ARCA Series — no wins but 17 top-10 finishes in 20 races and a third-place finish in the season championship. Before that, she had won three times in two seasons in the lower-tier ARCA West series.
