Grice runs to replace Coleman – CCN

Emily Parks Grice has filed to run for a seat on the Columbus County District One school board. On Monday, she was endorsed by Randy Coleman, who announced he will not run for re-election.

Grice lives in Delco.

Coleman was not the first incumbent to withdraw from the November election. Former Whiteville City School Board Chairwoman Kandle Rogers, who represents District Three, said she would not run for the seat she held for 12 years. Jackie Ray Pierce has filed to run for the District Three board seat.

As of July 10, there will be no school council elections in the fall elections.

Incumbent Greg Merritt was among the first to file papers to re-run for Whiteville’s District 4 seat.

Steve Long is on the ballot for the District 5 school board. He lives near Tabor City.

Two candidates have filed to run for the Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. Gary Simmons of the Chadbourn area and Walter Strickland of Cerro Gordo will be on the ballot for two open seats this fall.

The application period ends on August 5.
