Former Dallas Mavericks starter breaks silence on joining Clippers

Even though the LA Clippers lost Paul George this offseason, they gained an incredibly valuable player in Derrick Jones Jr. — the same Derrick Jones Jr. who secured a contract with Paul George during the 2024 NBA playoffs.

President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank issued a press release today announcing the official signing of Derrick Jones Jr.

“Derrick is a tremendous athlete and versatile defender who excels in transition and attacking the rim,” Frank said. “As we saw firsthand in the playoffs against Dallas, he can change games with his reach and activity. We’re going to have a tenacious defense this season, and DJJ will be a huge part of that.”

That same day, Derrick Jones Jr. broke his silence on the signing by posting a video for the LA Clippers.

“Hey Clipper Nation! This is DJ. I can’t wait to get to work,” said Derrick Jones Jr. “I can’t wait to get out there and hear all the loud cheers from y’all. I’m so happy to be here. Thank you all!”

Outside of Terance Mann, the LA Clippers have been without a young, versatile wing defender for the past five seasons. While he doesn’t average 20 points per game like Paul George, Derrick’s presence will be invaluable to a much older Clippers team.
