On Monday, July 8, The Doobie Brothers brought their extensive 50th anniversary tour to Jacksonville, Florida, and brought along a few special guests on their way to the stage. The legendary yacht rockers were joined on stage at the Daily’s Place Amphitheater by Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, who brought a bit of regional flavor from the Southern rock stronghold the Tedeschi Trucks Band call home.

After opening with classics like “Rockin’ Down the Highway” and “Dependin’ on You,” the band peaked mid-stage when they welcomed Trucks to the stage for an extended sit-in. With Jacksonville-born guitar virtuoso and tour opener Robert Cray, the veteran band played Sonny Boy Williamson’s “Don’t Start Me Talkin’,” a staple of the band’s live shows since 1974, nearly five years since they last performed it at Nashville, Tennessee’s legendary Ryman Auditorium in November 2019. After that exciting dusting off, Trucks remained on stage to support beloved tracks “It Keeps You Runnin’” and “Eyes of Silver.”

With Trucks occupying the stage and drums by former Allman Brothers Band member Marc Quiñones—who is currently on tour with the Doobie Brothers—the evening suddenly became a miniature Allman reunion at the band’s original venue. The family affair continued after the Doobie Brothers closed the show with “China Grove,” when the band returned to the stage for a three-song encore—“Black Water,” “Takin’ It to the Streets,” and “Listen to the Music”—with Susan Tedeschi sitting in for the final song of the night alongside her husband and bandmate.

The Doobie Brothers will return to the stage tonight, July 10, for a show at West Palm Beach, Fla.’s iTHINK Financial Amphitheater, followed by a performance at the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheater in Tampa on July 11. For tickets and more information about the Doobie Brothers tour, visit
