Dallas Cowboys to Trade CeeDee Lamb to Carolina Panthers

Dallas Cowboys to Trade CeeDee Lamb to Carolina Panthers

CeeDee Lamb has blossomed into one of the top five wide receivers in the NFL. After a stellar 2023 season with 144 receptions, 1,859 yards, and 12 touchdowns, Lamb is poised to solidify his place at the top of the wide receiver market. However, it has been well-documented that there are contract disputes between Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys front office, led by Jerry Jones. If Jones is not willing to pay the amount necessary to keep Lamb happy in Dallas, he could consider trading him for a cheaper asset. The Carolina Panthers could be the perfect team to make that trade.

Everyone knows Jerry Jones has money to spend, so it’s hard to imagine him not paying his star offensive player. But he also has to consider other contracts on the team. Quarterback Dak Prescott is in the middle of contract discussions and is set to become a free agent after this season. The Cowboys also have to consider the contract of star edge rusher Micah Parsons. Lamb, Prescott and Parsons will all be asking for top-of-the-market offers. While the Cowboys have the cash, there’s a salary cap and 50 other positions to fill. Managing three top-of-the-market contracts would be a challenge.

If the Cowboys were to trade Lamb, they could make a significant amount of money. The plan for that trade could come from when the Miami Dolphins acquired Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs received a slew of draft picks, including a first-rounder, a second-rounder, a couple of fourths and a six. The Carolina Panthers have the capital to meet that need, along with plenty of salary cap space to work with. The Panthers are coming off a rebuild, and with quarterback Bryce Young struggling last season, having a receiver like Lamb could provide him with some much-needed support. Additionally, Lamb would be a perfect role model for rookie Xavier Legette.

The chances of the Cowboys trading Lamb are still pretty slim, but if they decide to move forward with Prescott and Parsons, Lamb could move. If they do, Carolina should take advantage of that opportunity. Following the Tyreek Hill trade pattern, they could acquire Lamb and add another dimension to an offense that struggled last season. This move could save Bryce Young’s career and help Xavier Legette develop into a true 1B receiver.
