POWELL, Ohio (WCMH) — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has welcomed a new litter of a near-endangered cat.

Two new Pallas cats were born on July 3 to Tiina and Moose in the Asia Quest zoo area. This is Tiina and Moose’s second litter.

This species is characterized by long, thick gray fur, a flat head, and short ears. It is native to Central Asia.

The kittens and Tiina are spending their bonding time behind the scenes at the zoo, and the kittens won’t be visible to visitors for about six weeks, the zoo said. Moose is still receiving visitors, though. When the kittens emerge from their den, they should have a full adult coat, according to the zoo’s website about the species.

On its Facebook page, the zoo called the litter “a joyful event and a ‘victory’ for the conservation of this beautiful species.”
