Below-par tournament Alexa Prettyman leads Jerome golfers

Dublin Jerome High School senior Alexa Prettyman birdied two of her final three holes Wednesday, overcoming early setbacks to finish with scores of 73 (1-over par) and 215 (1-under par) in the three-day Girls High School Golf National Invitational in suburban Dallas.

Prettyman tied for 31st placesaint 1st, she was one of only 32 players in a field of 208 girls to score under par and led all 10 Ohioans in the event.

Her first two days were a 1-under-par 71, giving the Celtics a score of 29-over-par 893 and ninth place out of 31 teams.

Teammates Mia Ringger and Ellie Ryu scored a combined 57 pointst (223), then Addie Yarbrough (tied 104)t232) and Medha Pothuru (ex aequo 142)and248).

Prettyman and Ryu enter their final season as defending Division I state champions. Pothuru, Ringger and Yarbrough graduated in the spring.

Led by sophomore Eva Lim, the score was tied at 46t place (220), Columbus Academy tied for 18th placet (960).

Senior Caroline Zeiger (tied for 70th, 226), recent graduate Angela Hu (tied for 133rd)r & d244) and Sydney Fortney (ex aequo 176)t270) and sophomore Rosemary Jenkins (tied at 197)t295) completed the roster of the Vikings, last year’s Division II state champions.

The competition alternated between three golf courses — Fields Ranch West Golf Course in Frisco, Gentle Creek Country Club in Prosper and WestRidge Golf Course in McKinney.

Championship teams from each state were eligible to compete.

Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic easily won the team championship, leading from start to finish and winning by 39 strokes (55-under-par 809).

Olivia Hung, a 15-year-old from Taiwan competing as an independent, and Leigh Chien of Santa Margarita Catholic tied for first in the individual event (199). Hung scored a 62 on Wednesday after being ninth at the start of the day.
