10th Anniversary of the Dallas Herring Lecture

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. and register today for the Dallas Herring Lecture, presented annually by the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research.

This year’s lecture will be delivered by Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, Chancellor of the Austin Community College District, who will deliver a keynote address on “Transforming Higher Education: Loving Our Students So They Succeed Through Intentional, Courageous, and Systemic Leadership.”

Dr. Lowery-Hart, known as a leader in the higher education community who challenges higher education institutions and their staff to “love students so they succeed,” will discuss how higher education can bring love to policies, processes, classrooms, instruction, services, partnerships, and spaces, and how this allows us to work collaboratively with our students and with each other.

“To lead with love, we must move beyond our feelings and take action, build structures and systems, and use data to actively love our students,” says Audrey Jaeger, executive director of the Belk Center.

All nine past faculty members have been invited back to the anniversary celebration, and this year’s speakers will be President Pamela Senegal of Piedmont Community College and President Scott Ralls of Wake Technical Community College.

It’s a bigger-than-usual celebration for the Belk Center, which celebrates not only the 10th anniversary of the Dallas Herring Lecture, but also the 5th anniversary of the Center’s founding and the 60th anniversary of North Carolina State University’s doctoral program in higher education leaders.

In case you missed it, the Belk Center and Achieving the Dream recently released this important guide on “Building Capacity and Supporting Educators in North Carolina Community Colleges.”
