1 dead, 6 injured in apartment fire in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood

SEATTLEOne person was killed, several injured and one arrested following an apartment fire early Wednesday morning in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood.

The Seattle Fire Department responded to a report of a residential fire at First Avenue and Vine Street after 2 a.m. The fire closed all southbound lanes at 2nd Avenue and Vine Street.

Upon arrival, firefighters immediately evacuated people from the building and began extinguishing the fire.

Firefighters tell FOX 13 one person died at the scene, one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition and five other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to the Seattle Police Department, a 65-year-old man was detained and questioned in connection with the fatal fire.

Fifty people have been displaced and the Red Cross will provide assistance to them.

According to the Seattle Fire Department, the fire involved two apartments on the third and fourth floors.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
