NFL experts believe Baltimore Ravens lack elite defensive tackle

NFL teams don’t appear to be particularly concerned about any particular Baltimore Ravens defensive player.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler surveyed NFL executives, coaches and scouts to pick the 10 best edge rushers in the league. According to Fowler, more than 80 voters submitted surveys and 25 different players were named.

Not a single member of the Ravens appeared in the poll.

In a move that may sting some Ravens fans, Jadeveon Clowney received one vote. Clowney finished second on the Ravens in sacks last year with 9.5. He left as a free agent to join the Carolina Panthers.

The situation for Ravens fans was made worse by the fact that the Ravens’ AFC North division rivals each had a player ranked in the top 10: Myles Garrett (Cleveland Browns), TJ Watt (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Trey Hendrickson (Cincinnati Bengals).

But it’s not as if NFL officials think the Ravens lack pass-rush talent. Ravens star Justin Madubuike ranked fifth in Fowler’s poll of top 10 defensive quarterbacks. Madubuike led the Ravens in sacks last year with 13.

Still, those grades are something to keep in mind as the Ravens head into the 2024 season. Repeating their defensive success was already in doubt after defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald became the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks and after the departures of key players like Clowney and linebacker Patrick Queen.

With training camp approaching, the Ravens still have time to fill their roster. They have plenty of holes to fill, but they could use more proven edge rushers.
