U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressmen John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume and Jamie Raskin (all D-Md.) met Tuesday afternoon with Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott to discuss a wide range of issues important to Baltimore. “After the collapse of the Key Bridge, we showed the nation what it truly means to be ‘Baltimore Strong.’ Together, Team Maryland is committed to supporting Baltimore—from securing federal funding to rebuild the bridge to working to secure critical investments in the city’s infrastructure, economy, public safety and more. Mayor Scott and I will continue to work to build an even brighter future for Baltimore.” said Senator Van Hollen.

“We are proud to welcome Mayor Scott back to the U.S. Capitol. He has been a strong partner and leader for our city, especially after the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.” Senator Cardin said“For years, improving public safety throughout Baltimore City has been our top priority, so it was great to start our meeting with good news from the Mayor about a significant decline in violent crime and other positive trends. Additionally, we continue to unite as Team Maryland to deliver much-needed federal funding for infrastructure projects that support a fair and unified Baltimore, such as the revitalization of the Red Line and reconnecting communities divided by the Highway to Nowhere, as well as the replacement of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.”

“Baltimore is at a pivotal moment in its history as it continues to grapple with the aftermath of the Key Bridge collapse and works toward a renaissance that our city is experiencing.” said Mayor Scott. “Our unparalleled partnership with our congressional delegation helps us seize the opportunities before us. On everything from rebuilding after the bridge collapse to key transportation projects like the Hanover Street Bridge, the Frederick Douglass Tunnel and the rebirth of the Red Line, to supporting our historic violence reduction efforts, our delegation was there to advocate for Charm City on Capitol Hill. Today, we discussed the implementation of these projects and the importance of continuing to properly improve public safety by expanding our partnership.”

We are grateful for Mayor Scott’s leadership and strategic vision, and we look forward to the significant positive impact these projects will have on Baltimore City and our region.” said Congressman Sarbanes.

I look forward to working together to continue to advance goals important to our state’s future, such as investing in public safety, strengthening our education system, expanding affordable housing, and more.”
