Columbus is among the top cities for single cat lovers

Are you a dog lover or a cat lover? When it comes to being single, this question often divides us into two camps. For those who proudly declare themselves cat lovers, Columbus is the place to be.

Gone are the days of negative stereotypes about single women with cats. Thanks to modern attitudes — perhaps influenced by trendsetters like T-Swift — today’s single woman in a big city can have not just one cat, but two or three, living her best life with her feline companions.

Imagine it’s the weekend and you’re single, enjoying life to the fullest with your beloved cat(s). Here in Columbus, your affection for these furry friends is not only accepted, but celebrated.

A nationwide Nielsen Scarborough study ranked Columbus as the 10th city where single women proudly own cats. The city’s love of cats is obvious, as evidenced by attractions like the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) headquarters in nearby Alliance, which recently hosted the International Cat Association’s Global Cat Show, featuring more than 500 cats and 50 breeds. And let’s not forget the Zen Cat Gallery, a local cat café that not only raises funds for cat welfare but also hosts monthly meetups for cat lovers and single women.

With all this cat-related activity, we’re starting to wonder how we haven’t ranked higher!

While we pride ourselves on our city’s reputation for cat love, Columbus isn’t alone. Other cities on the list include:

  1. Portland, OR
  2. Seattle, Washington
  3. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  4. Kansas City, Missouri
  5. Denver, Colorado
  6. Albuquerque, New Mexico
  7. Minneapolis, Minnesota
  8. Harrisburg, Virginia
  9. Tampa, Florida
  10. Columbus, Ohio

If this sounds like your purr-y lifestyle, grab a pen, paper, and kitty and start planning your next trip to one of these supportive feline communities. With tons of cat-themed events and a vibrant social scene, you’ll be living your best life—cat and all.
