Top 10 Power Rankings at Detroit Golf Club

Rocket Mortgage Classic is over half a decade old.

It’s not one of the PGA Tour’s premiere events, but it has produced some interesting winners since its inaugural edition in 2019, from Bryson DeChambeau to Rickie Fowler.

Rocket can also be played at Donald Ross’ classic golf course, Detroit Golf Club. This is the same architect who designed Pinehurst No. 2, site of the recent US Open. This Ross track won’t offer anywhere near that level of difficulty.

Winning scores in this event range from 18 under par to 25 under par, with the cut line falling a few strokes below par.

DGC opened in 1906 as a six-hole course. Ross burst onto the scene in 1913 and helped expand the club to 36 holes.

The venue has hosted major events such as the 1911 Western Amateur, the 1941 Ryder Cup and the 1992 U.S. Mid-Amateur. The DGC now stretches to 7,334 yards for a par 72.

There will be 156 players on the field this week, trying to get into the top 65 36-hole tournaments with a tie.

The greens are bent grass/poa annua and have some undulations. The fairways and roughs are bentgrass/poa mixed with bluegrass. This time of year the fairways are usually fast but wide and easy to hit. As long as you’re in them, it’s easy to get a low score.

Bombers usually have the advantage this week.

The weather forecast shows it won’t be too hot, with highs in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit, and some days with winds reaching a few miles per hour. There may be some rain midweek and possibly into the weekend, although it doesn’t look like it will significantly impact the tournament.

Let’s get into this week’s Motor City power rankings:
