Temperatures in Dallas-Fort Worth will reach 100 degrees for the first time in 2024, with a very hot week ahead

Triple-digit days are officially back in North Texas.

Temperatures on Sunday afternoon in the Dallas-Fort Worth area reached 100 degrees, marking the first triple-digit high of 2024, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Forecasters said in a social media post that at 3:42 p.m. ET, the temperature recorded at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport was 100 degrees.

Annually, DFW has an average of 20 days with temperatures of 100 degrees and above.

According to data collected by FOX 4 from 1991 to 2020, the first day with temperatures above 30 degrees is July 1.

The first 100 degree day in the last 6 years was:

  • June 25, 2023
  • June 11, 2022
  • July 25, 2021
  • July 12, 2020
  • July 30, 2019
  • June 22, 2018

Sunday’s 30-degree day was just the beginning for North Texas. Forecasters predict that it will be hot and dry for the next few days. High temperatures will be at or near 100 degrees, with heat index values ranging from 105 to 110 degrees.

As a result of the scorching temperatures, a heat advisory has been issued for North Texas counties including Collin, Dallas, Denton, Rockwall and Tarrant. The advisory will remain in effect for areas along and east of I-35 until Tuesday, June 25, at 7 p.m. ET.

Forecasters said on social media that as the heat spreads westward, areas west of I-35 will be under a heat advisory starting Tuesday afternoon.

Forecasters say there is a low risk of thunderstorms in parts of North Texas on Wednesday.

High temperatures and high humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for people who work or participate in outdoor activities. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, avoid the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Under no circumstances should small children or pets be left unattended in vehicles.
